Heat the oil in a large frying pan (skillet) over high heat, then reduce the heat. Add the mustard seeds, urad dal, dried red chillies, and asafoetida and stir-fry for 1 minute.
Add the tomato, reduce the heat to low and, cook for about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
When cool, add the yoghurt and season with salt, then mix well.
